E3 Extravaganza: Sony

Making Up for Terrifying Its Users

Sony started their keynote with an apology for scaring the bajeezus out of its users during the company's online service meltdown. The show continued on with a trailers from Uncharted 3, which were really impressive, and makes me want to play these games even more. They went on to announce a promotion with Subway that would allow customers early access to the complete multiplayer experience to Uncharted 3

        Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception trailer:

After that they showed off some of Resistance 3 that didn't do a whole lot to impress me, but looked like it was coming along well. They announced that Resistance 3 would support Playstation Move and that it will have its own controller bundle.

The bundle includes the game, the gun peripheral, a move controller, and a Playstation Eye all for $150 and it releases September 6th.
Next, it was announced that the two God of War PSP games would be released on the PS3 along with a remastered collection set of Shadow of the Colossus and Ico.

They then announced a new Playstation branded 3D television that came with glasses that allowed for each player to see a completely different image for each player when playing on local multiplayer instead of using split screen. Impressive stuff! The TV, a pair of glasses, and a copy of Resistance 3 will be bundled together for $499.

Afterward, the guys from 2KSports and Kobe Bryant showed off how NBA 2K12 worked using Playstation Move. I couldn't really tell how they were doing it other than a pointer appeared on the screen during gameplay.

They showed a trailer for Infamous 2 which releases today, then went on to announce that LittleBig Planet 2 would be updated to support Move. They then showed off Starhawk. It looked like a pretty cool space shooter, but not a whole lot of info was shown to be super excited about it. Then a trailer for Sly 4: Thieves in Time was shown.

Then the makers of Eve Online announced this crazy innovative MMOFPS, called Dust 514, that would be exclusive to PS3 and will connect with Eve Online creating one big super MMO.

        Dust 514 trailer:

Ken Levine from Irrational Games came out after more footage of Bioshock Infinite was shown and announced that it would support Move, and then mentioned that they were planning a new Bioshock game for Sony's upcoming handheld console. Also, when Bioshock Infinite releases, it will have the original Bioshock on the same Blu-Ray.

Then they began to announce Move support and special exclusive content for PS3 on a bunch of games like Saint's Row the Third, two video game tie-ins to the new J.J. Abrams Star Trek sequel, Need for Speed: The Run, and Battlefield 3 will be released with Battlefield 1943 as a free extra.
They also brought up Playstation Suite again and talked about it some more. Then they announced the name of their new handheld console, Playstation Vita, and that AT&T would be the exclusive carrier of the 3G version.

A few game demos were shown for the PSVita includint Uncharted: Golden Abyss which showed off the systems touch screen and many different ways to play the game. The player could basically switch between different control options on the fly without menus. A new game named Ruin showed off the ability to save the game on the PSVita via the cloud and resume playing on the PS3. They also showed a brand new Mod Nation Racers game that allowed for track creation to be used exclusively with the touch screen, and that all previous user created content would be available at launch. A new Wipeout game, named Wipeout 2048, was said to have crossplay functionality meaning that people on their PS3s could play against people on their PSVitas. Also a new LittleBig Planet was announced for the PSVita.

Street Fighter X Tekken was shown for the PSVita, and it was announced that Cole from Infamous would be a playable character on the PSVita version (I know, wtf?).

And at last, a montage of PSVita games were shown and a price was announced. The regular wi-fi version would cost $249.99, and the 3G wi-fi version would be $299.99. The PSVita will be released the holiday season.

Check back later today for Nintendo's conference, and keep an eye out for the rest of the week for more information.
