E3 Extravaganza: Microsoft

Holy Motion Sensing, Batman!

The first day of E3 has begun and to kick things off with a "meh" was Microsoft. The presentation opened with a live demo of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. It showed a bunch of scuba diving military guys swimming through and underwater minefield to plant some explosives on a submarine. They detonate the charges and swim to the surface to reveal that they had been in harbor of Lower Manhattan and the New York Skyline is being destroyed. After blowing up one sub they jump on another, shoot some guys, blow it up, jump on a speed boat, and high tail it out of there while all kinds of stuff is blowing up around them. You know, typical CoD stuff, but it looked pretty cool.

Then they showed a super serious Tomb Raider demo showing Lara Croft getting the crap kicked out of her. It showed a darker tone for the series and actually has me interested, which says something, because I've never been interested in Tomb Raider.

Afterward, they showed off the Kinect support for Mass Effect 3 which was just voice commands that can be used for coordination in battle and deciding what to say in conversation. EA Sports then announced that four of their most popular titles will have Kinect support like Madden and FIFA. Some Ubisoft guys came out and showed off all of the things that you can do with the Kinect in Ghost Recon: Future Soldier  which included gun customization, and full on replacing the controller, which was kind of iffy to me.

After showing off the Kinect, Xbox Guy came out and announced that You Tube, Bing, and live television were going to be available on Xbox Live and that they will be compatible with, you guessed it, Kinect.

A Gears of War 3 live demo with Ice-T was shown which didn't do a whole lot for me other than show off the huge scale of the enemies and battles.

Then they just opened the flood gates on the Kinect games. A UFC XBLA game, and Crytek's new game called Ryse which is set in ancient Rome. Disneyland Adventures, a simulation of Disneyland, Double Fine's Sesame Street: Once Upon a Monster, Kinect Star Wars, and something called Kinect Fun Labs were shown. Kinect Sports Season 2, and Dance Central 2 were also shown. Forza 4 was shown with Kinect support along with Fable: The Journey which looked like an on-rails shooter believe it or not.  Even Minecraft is being released as a Kinect game!

Before all of the Kinect business, they announced Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, which is a total remake of Halo: CE using today's technology and includes all of the features that are in current Halo games. Right at the end of the event, Xbox Guy came out and talked about how the Xbox is the shiz and everyone should get it. He then finished the whole thing off with a teaser trailer for Halo 4.

That was all. I'm going to be posting more throughout the week, so keep an eye out!
