E3 Extravaganza: Nintendo

Nintendo Proves That It Is Always One Step Ahead
Nintendo has always been the company that others look to to make revolutions in the video game industry. From bringing back video games from the grave to creating a console that allows for players to view 3D without glasses, Nintendo has always created the most sophisticated pieces of technology. I'll get back to why it is so true today later in this post.

Nintendo started off their conference by recognizing the twenty-fifth anniversary of The Legend of Zelda by discussing the series's music and having the live orchestra play some tunes from the games. Shigeru Miyamoto then announced that The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening would be the first game for the 3DS's E-Shop which has just launched. He talked a little bit about Ocarina of Time 3D, and announced that The Legend of Zelda: The Four Swords Adventure would be released for free on the DSi Shop. From there Miyamoto touched on The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword and announced a special golden limited edition Wii Remote to be released alongside the game. After that he announced two twenty-fifth anniversary soundtrack CDs from Skyward Sword and Ocarina of Time

Next, they showed off a slew of trailers for new games on the 3DS. Here they all are:

        Mario Kart 3DS:

        Super Mario 3DS:

        Luigi's Mansion 2:

        Kid Icarus Uprising:

They then talked about some of the functionality of Star Fox 64 3D. One of the features includes the ability to control the ship using the 3DS's gyroscope. They also announced a 3D remake of Excitebike and a nifty looking 3D Pokedex app for the 3DS. All of these things have me immensely excited for the future, but that is just the beginning.

After all of the 3DS craziness, Reggie Fils-Aime announced Nintendo's new console, the Wii U.
Despite the oddball name, the new system has great potential for groundbreaking new games.

The controller looks like an iPad with buttons and control sticks. This controller is what makes the Wii U so revolutionary. Check out the controller trailer to find out what makes this thing so awesome.

         Wii U controller trailer:

As you see, the controller allows for such things as an extra screen during gameplay, a touch screen, and even a way to play your games even when someone else is using the television among other things.

A tech demo also showed off the capability of the graphics that the system can handle.

        Wii U tech demo:

It's not the best around, but it is certainly capable of competing with other consoles, and is far better than the graphics of the Wii.

At the end, they teased the idea of a Super Smash Bros. game being developed for both 3DS and Wii U that involved cross compatibility. They then showed a list of all the third party games that were being developed for the Wii U. They are: Batman: Arkham City Assassin’s Creed, Darksiders II, Dirt, Aliens, Ghost Recon Online, Metro: Last Night, Tekken, and Ninja Gaiden 3. They closed with the head of EA talking about the potential of the Wii U with new EA games. This excites me as much the controller, because for so long, Nintendo almost always missed out on huge multi-platform releases, and now it looks like they walk with their stronger brethren.

In my opinion, Nintendo's conference was the absolute best. It could be because of my super fan dreams are finally coming true, but it could also be that Nintendo really knows what they are doing.

Thanks for reading, check back later in the week for more E3 posts if I find anything worthy of my time.
