List: Top 10 Most Anticipated Games from E3 2012 Part 1

Numbers 10-6

Last week, one of the least exciting E3s took place, but despite the noticeable lack of new and exciting announcements, there were still a huge number of games that looked fantastic. It was difficult for me to pick just ten as there are so many games from the show that I can't wait to play. This is a list of games from E3 that I just can't wait to play.

10. Assassin's Creed III

Assassin's Creed III showed some rather entertaining gameplay. The first demo showed off the series' trademark platforming and combat, which looked just as fun as always. The second demo, however, showed the new protagonist, Conner, navigating a ship and fighting the British in naval combat with cannons and jumping on enemy ships to fight in close combat. As the Call of Duty series has shown, it's possible for players to become uninterested in a series that releases a new game every year, but Assassin's Creed III seems to be adding enough variety to justify buying another game every year.

9. Need for Speed: Most Wanted

The original Need for Speed: Most Wanted is easily one of my favorite racing games, and watching the trailer and demo for the new Most Wanted got me very excited. The new Most Wanted is being developed by Criterion Games, the creators of the Burnout series and the developer of the reboot of Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit. Criterion's Most Wanted will include a more in-depth version of the Autolog stat-tracking system introduced in Hot Pursuit to create a most-wanted list of your friends. The game's single player seems similar to Burnout Paradise by featuring a large open world and brings back the goal of taking down rivals on a Blacklist. And, of course, there's the fun of being chased by the police at ridiculously high speeds.

8. South Park: The Stick of Truth

I've never had any reason to be excited for a South Park game. They've always seemed like desperate attempts at cashing in on the show's popularity. The Stick of Truth, on the other hand, has me really excited for a South Park game. Obsidian Entertainment is working with the show's creators, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, to create a full-blown RPG in the vein of Paper Mario and will attempt to emulate the look and feel of the show as close as possible. The game will feature a story written by Trey and Matt, and will probably be South Park at its craziest. If the gameplay turns out to be a letdown, it will at least be hilarious.

7. New Super Mario Bros. U

New Super Mario Bros. U may not use a whole lot of features of the new Wii U, but I am still excited to finally be able to play a Mario game in HD. The only notable Wii U feature is the ability to have a fifth person use the Wii U's touch screen controller to move objects around to help out the other players. Aside from that, it looks like another batch of co-op, platforming greatness. Mario will also be able to collect new power-ups like a special acorn that gives him a flying squirrel outfit. There are also baby Yoshi's that can be inflated to float around on or shoot bubbles out of their mouths. It may not feature much of the Wii U's new gadgets, but New Super Mario Bros. U still looks like it can be just as fun as every other Mario game.

6. The Last of Us

Naughty Dog has left the adventurous Uncharted series for a darker, survival-horror vibe with The Last of Us. This game is all about surviving the land after the Apocalypse. The demo showed Uncharted's cinematic quality combined with surviving the environment and others who are trying to make it out alive. It also showed a quick glance of what seemed to be a weapon-building menu as a Molotov cocktail was created to light up some guys with guns. The game has all of the crazy shootouts and close combat of most action games, but with an injection of humanity like a man pleading for his life before he is killed. It is this kind of realism that sets The Last of Us apart from most post-apocalyptic games.
