Numbers 5-1
5. Beyond: Two Souls
Quantic Dream is known for making critically acclaimed games. Their next game, Beyond: Two Souls, doesn't look like that it will disappoint. The trailer didn't show much in terms of actual gameplay, but did offer a good look in the games impressive graphics and lifelike animations. The game follows Jodie Holmes, played by Ellen Page, throughout fifteen years of her life as she learns the mystery behind the invisible entity that she interacts with. The trailer showed off quick glimpses of destruction and special powers that the invisible force can use like a activating a force-field to protect Jodie. Since this game was just announced, there are still many questions, but it is one of the most intriguing games announced last week.
4. Borderlands 2
The original Boderlands just received the Guinness World Record for the most guns in a video game. Borderlands 2 aims to shatter that record. In addition to adding a boat load of more guns, this game aims to improve on everything else from the original by adding more classes to choose from, better AI, a better story, more customization, better abilities, and, of course, loads of more loot to carry. The story follows revolutionaries five years after the first game as they band together to take down Handsome Jack, the new, ruthless dictator or Pandora. Players can still choose to run through the main quest or take on the loads of sidequests. With all of the things crammed onto this disc, it'll surely be a while before anyone can get bored of it.
3. Halo 4
It's been said time and time again how big of a deal Halo 4 is. If you ask me, it doesn't seem like 343 Industries is going ruin what Bungie created. Everything about this game seems to have a significant improvement from Reach. The graphics look better, the audio sounds better, and the weapons look cooler. The single player campaign demo showed off some scary new enemies and a cool new weapon created by the Forerunners. The multiplayer is broken up into two modes, competitive and cooperative. The competitive modes takes the form of a Spartan training simulation, and the co-op mode is a episodic mission based campaign that will be released regularly after the release of Halo 4. With all of these new additions to the series, it seems like 343 Industries knows what they're doing with the Halo.
2. Dishonored
Dishonored seems to be many different things. Set in a steampunk, Victorian-esque world, the bodyguard, Corvo, tries to get revenge on the man that framed him for the assassination of the Empress he was assigned to protect. Corvo has an arsenal of weapons and magic at his disposal to take out anyone that gets in his way. That's if he wanted to. The game allows the player open-ended freedom as to how he wants to get passed enemies. He can go in guns blazing, sneak attack, or use magic to sneak around them. Corvo has plenty of choices, and plenty of magic he can use as well. For example, he can posses enemies and animals, freeze time, and teleport. After seeing so many different ways to play the game, Dishonored looks like it could really change the action/stealth genre.
1. Watch Dogs
Aside from Beyond, Watch Dogs is the only big surprise that came out of E3. The demo showed the player taking control of a hacker who can gain access to whatever technological device he wants with his super special hacking machine. The hacker was able to jam cell phone frequencies to distract guards and gain access to an art gallery, he's able to gain personal information about bystanders, listen in on their phone conversations, and short circuit traffic lights to cause a huge automobile accident. It's not just a big hacking simulator, though. The demo shown ended with a big shootout, and with someone on a building looking over the entire thing. It's not certain how all of these elements will work together or what that guy on the building had to do with what was going on, but one thing is for sure, this is the game I am looking forward to playing the most out of all that was shown at E3.
I feel bad about not mentioning the other games out of E3 that should be mentioned, so here are the honorable mentions in no particular order: Metal Gear Rising: Revengance, Injustice: God's Among Us, Rayman Legends, Pikmin 3, Dead Space 3, Far Cry 3, Crysis 3, Resident Evil 6, Tomb Raider, Elder Scrolls Online, Planetside 2, and New Super Mario Bros. 2.
