Nine-Year-Old Makes Pretty Cool Game
So, I came across an article on Game Informer about a terminally ill kid named Owain Weinert who was able to help create his own game thanks to the Make-A-Wish Foundation and PopCap Games. Owain basically came up with the whole thing himself, he just needed someone to make it. That's where PopCap and 4th & Battery came into the scene.
The game plays much like PopCap's own Plants vs. Zombies except it's humans versus aliens using space vehicles. One twist to the well-known formula is an added tug-of-war element that has the two teams pushing forward towards the enemy base when winning and falling back when the units are outnumbered. Also unlike Plants vs. Zombies, it takes time for units to reach the area where the battle is taking place instead of appearing instantly when placed on the field. The player chooses from fast ATVs and tanks for the front lines and the slower sniper and behemoth sniper for the back. There's of course upgrades and power-ups to buy along the way.
The best part of all of this is that it is completely free. It's available for iPhone, iPod, and iPad. I recommend playing this cool little game and supporting little Owain.
